OVERVIEW
PetroChina's refinery in Karamay, Xinjiang, established in 1959 to process crude from the nearby Karamay oil field -- China's first large oil field discovered after 1949 and a founding site of the modern Chinese petroleum industry (predating even the larger nearby Dushanzi Petrochemical complex, which traces to 1936). Crude distillation capacity is reported at roughly 120,000 b/d, with the plant producing over 200 chemical products including fuel oil, lubricants and asphalt, and meeting about half of China's domestic white-oil (naphtha-derivative) demand.
