OVERVIEW
A 50-50 joint venture between Saudi Aramco and ExxonMobil (via Mobil Yanbu Refining Company), formed 1981 (originally Petromin Mobil Yanbu Refinery Company, renamed SAMREF in 1993) and onstream since 15 November 1984 on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast. Crude processing capacity has grown from an original 263,000 b/d design to about 402,000 b/d today. Struck by an Iranian drone on 19 March 2026 during the 2026 Gulf conflict; damage was minimal and operations resumed quickly (see news).
